Writing Contest

The East of Eden Writing Contest is open to conference
participants only.
First place winners of each category will receive $100 and a trophy. The top three winners of each category will receive certificates and winner's ribbons and will be invited to share an excerpt from the winning piece at a dedicated Night Owl Session.
Manuscripts must be unpublished as of the date of submission.
Grand Prize: $100 per category
FEES: $15 per entry. You may include entries with mail-in registration, or mail entries separately, up to the contest deadline.
DEADLINE: August 1, 2008. Conference fees must be paid before entry will be processed.

first 40 pages or Act One |
Nonfiction / Memoir: |
up to 3,000 words |
Poetry: |
up to 100 lines or up to 3 short poems printed on one page, judged as a single entry |
Children's/Juvenile Fiction or Nonfiction: |
up to 3,000 words |
How to Enter:

| 1. Remove any mention of the author's name from manuscript, and place title and page number in the top right corner of every page. |
|
2. Use standard formatting: 12 point type, double-space, Times New Roman font. |
|
3. Attach a 3x5 card with the following

2008 Basil Stevens Memorial Scholarship Writing Contest
Basil Stevens was a sports writer and long-time member of South Bay Writers.
He passed away in 2004 and is sorely missed.
First Prize: a scholarship to the 2008 East of Eden Writers Conference
- includes full two-day conference plus extras, a $425 value!
Second Prize: $100 credit toward the 2008 EoE
Third Prize: $50 credit toward the 2008 EoE
Rules:
- Submit only previously unpublished essay, article, story or poem, max 750 words; topic must be a sports theme.
- Previous first place winners in this contest are not elgible to enter.
- Fee $10 per entry
- Submissions by postal mail only
- Postmark Deadline: July 1, 2008
