About Salinas: First, you should know that the Salinas Valley is not part of the Central Valley. Second, this is agricultural country, to be sure. Called the "Salad Bowl of the US," Salinas Valley farmers grow 80% of the nation's lettuce, 50% of its mushrooms, and just about all the artichokes. The city of Salinas is as famous for rodeo as it is for John Steinbeck. The California Rodeo is held in July at the Salinas Sports Complex, which is right next door to our conference venue at the Salinas Community Center. Old Town Salinas is the historic heart of the city and home to the National Steinbeck Center, shopping, dining, and night life. If you plan to extend your stay in the area, Monterey is only 18 miles to the west and makes a great destination. Beautiful Carmel by the Sea and Big Sur are a short drive away, and ...
