June - Andrei Aleinikov

Dr. Aleinikov is a world-renowned keynote speaker, author, workshop and seminar leader who also holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest written, printed, and publishedbook, set with Making the Impossible Possible, a start to finish project that took 16 hours. Since then, he's repeated this exercise in MegaCreativity with many groups, including CWC Central Coast.

May - Wendy Nelson Tokunaga

Wendy is the author of the novels Love in Translation and Midori By Moonlight, both published by St. Martin’s. She holds a BA in Psychology from San Francisco State University (SFSU) and an MFA in Creative Writing from The University of San Francisco (USF). Wendy offers manuscript consulting services.

April 17 - 2010 SBW Young Writers Workshop

Bay Area middle and high school aged writers spent a Saturday learning about writing:

  • Telling Tales: Writing for Oral Storytelling with Debra Ting, Master Storyteller
  • The Importanceof Powerful Dialogue with Joe Cannon, Aspiring Playwright, and Literacy Tutor
  • Blogging: Writing for Your Readers While Staying Safe with Bill Belew, Professional Blogger Make Them Laugh: Comedy Writing with Edie Matthews, English Professor, Comedian, and Author.

April 24 - Complete Hands-On Blogging Workshop

This was Part Deux of the January Blogging Workshop everyone clamored for. Bill Belew explained in detail the how-to of blogging.

  1. Creating a blog—finding a domain name, choosing software, picking a template, going public.
  2. Putting up quality content—inserting images, internal and external links, finding hot topics, establishing a voice.
  3. Building a network—Creating links to other writers, adding links to your books, making some money.

April - Jordan Rosenfeld

Jordan Rosenfeld, columnist for Writers Digest and author of Make a Scene: Crafting a Powerful Story One Scene at a Time, is a fiction writer, freelance journalist and editor. She is also the co-author of Write Free! Attracting the Creative Life with Rebecca Lawton (BeijaFlor Books). Jordan is a contributing editor & columnist to Writer’s Digest magazine. Her freelance journalism has also appeared in numberous publications including The San Francisco Chronicle, The St. Petersburg Times, Times, and The Writer. Her book reviews are regularly featured on The California Report, a news-magazine produced by NPR-affiliate KQED radio. Website

March - Nina Amir

Nina Amir is a seasoned journalist, nonfiction editor, author, consultant, and writing coach with almost 30 years of experience in the publishing field. She has edited or written for more than 45 local, national and international magazines, newspapers, e-zines, and newsletters on a full-time or freelance basis. Her essays have been published in five anthologies and can be found in numerous e-zines and Internet article directories. Nina is a new SBW member and will a guest at East of Eden 2010.

February - Michelle Gagnon

Michelle Gagnon's novels have been published in North America, France, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Australia, and have been IMBA top 10 bestsellers. Her most recent novel, THE GATEKEEPER, involves a domestic terror plot by anti-immigration hate groups. Michelle is a member of Sisters in Crime, Mystery Writers of America, Romance Writers of America, and International Thriller Writers. Every Thursday she blogs about life, writing, and petty annoyances on The Kill Zone.

January Workshop - Blogging for Publishing and Promoting Your Writing

SBW member and professional blogger, Bill Belew presented a workshop that explored blogging as a means for publishing and promoting your work. Bill has four blog topics to more than 1 million page views each. His combined network of blogs has more than 14 million page views and now gets about 1 million views monthly.
