Carolyn Donnell

I moved to the Bay Area in late 1998 from Houston to go to work for IBM. Big mistake. But maybe I wouldn’t have started writing again if I still had a job. Who knows? I did begin writing around 2003 thanks to Edie Matthews’ workshop and joined SouthBay Branch shortly thereafter. Since then I have had the opportunity to contribute to WritersTalk and have won six short story awards.

Short Story Awards:

  • June 2008 - Frontiers in Writing, Amarillo TX Honorable Mention - Memoir
  • September 2007 - Honorable Mention - 24-hour short story contest
  • June 2007 - Frontiers in Writing, Amarillo TX 1st place and 3rd place Short Story
  • April 2007 - California Writers Club South Bay Branch – Writers Talk. 1st place - Memoir/Short Story
  • 2006 South West Writers Albuquerque NM 2nd Place Short Story/Western

Poems have published in Sand Hill Review 2007, Celtic Women - Winter 2007 Newsletter and WritersTalk.

Current writing projects include two novels (NANOWRIMO last November – 2006), a play, and children's stories.

Other passions are playing viola with various Bay Area groups, including Winchester Orchestra of San Jose, South Valley Symphony, San Benito Stage Orchestra, Saratoga Drama Group, West Valley Light Opera, and Stanford Savoyards and painting (Member - Los Gatos Art Association since 2006. Honorable Mention Los Gatos Juried Art Show 2007).

It’s a fulfilling life, just wish it would bring in more money.
