Member Spotlight

Cathy Bauer ran the 2006 EoE donation drawing, which earned $1000 for Salinas Public Libraries.

Cathy Bauer

In March, member Cathy Bauer received the first ever SBW Matthews-Baldwin award. You probably know Cathy as the lady who sells tickets for the donation drawing we have at each meeting, although that is only one of the many jobs she does for SBW.. She runs the drawing, hunts and gathers the prize (often crafting some of them!), bakes brownies for our dessert, plus she is the Hospitality Chair, ready to meet and greet newcomers at each meeting.

Cathy was our branch secretary for several years. She has worked on the East of Eden Writers Conferences. In 2006, few knew how hard she worked and how valuable she was as a contributor to that year's event. Many of the special touches were Cathy's, from the writing contest winners' tote bags (which she crafted) to the fabulous array of gift baskets and prizes for the donation drawing.

Next time you see Cathy, be sure to congratulate her on this award and thank her for all she does for our club. We're lucky to have her.

About the Matthews-Baldwin Award

Named for two long-time driving forces of our club, former VP Edie Matthews and former president Bill Baldwin, this annual award is given to an SBWriter in recognition of exemplary service to the branch.

  Awards and Recognition

Jack London Awards

Periodically, CWC branches nominate one of their members to receive a Jack London Award in recognition of outstanding service to the organization.

SBW's most recent honoree was Vicki Burlew for her excellent performance as branch treasurer and registrar for the 2006 East of Eden Writers Conference.
